This January, we are thrilled to feature Solange Ledwith, a distinguished glass artist whose work embodies the vibrant spirit of our community.

A Journey Through Glass Art

Solange's passion for glass art began in 2002 at Chico State University, California, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She further honed her craft at California State University, Fullerton, obtaining a Master of Arts with an emphasis in Studio Art/Glass. Her artistic journey led her to Los Angeles, where she collaborated with renowned artists and glassmakers, refining her skills and developing a unique style.

Swamp Girl Glass Blowing: A Creative Haven

In 2018, Solange established Swamp Girl Glass Blowing in Slidell, Louisiana. The studio offers custom-made glass designs for homes and offices, including table-top décor and lighting. It also provides educational experiences such as glass blowing and knife forging classes, welcoming participants aged 8 and up.

Community Engagement and Exhibitions

Solange's commitment to the arts is evident through her involvement in community events. In November 2023, she unveiled a new art exhibit titled "Surrender" at the Slidell Cultural Center, showcasing her innovative glass creations. Solange is currently the president of Keep Slidell Beautiful and her unique artwork has brought not only beautification to the city of Slidell but also a pride in it’s creative culture. She assisted with the development of the community garden, the Camellia Tree Sculpture, and many other projects designed to bring the city of Slidell together.

Upcoming Workshops

For those interested in exploring the art of glass blowing, Swamp Girl Glass Blowing offers hands-on workshops. Participants can create their own glass ornaments, vases, or bowls under Solange's expert guidance. Each session is designed to be a safe, educational, and exciting experience.
