To get started, look around your kitchen and see
what your household goes through.
Whether it is a beer after work, or a glass of wine with dinner, or maybe a pickle wedge a day one does not have to look far to find some glass containers. And trust us, if you start getting embarrassed at how much your household might drink, we are in Louisiana, and we know there is someone who drinks more than your household. It could even be your neighbor. When it comes to (responsible) drinking, none of us should judge.
How much do you drink out of standard glass bottles?
Popular standard bottles include soda, mineral water, and beer. 1 standard bottle weighs approximately 1/2 of a lb.
1 bottle a day = 15lbs of glass every month.
2 six pack cases a week = 24lbs every month.
4 bottles a day = 60lbs every month.
How much wine does your household go through?
Peanut butter, Pickles, Jellies, Jams, BBQ Sauce, and More.
This is where measuring can become tricky. Many products come in all sorts of glass packaging, which makes getting an accurate weight hard.
To be on the safe side, a fair amount of the smaller glass containers can be estimated at around 1/2 of a lb.
The larger ones (such as a 24oz pickle jar) can be estimated to weigh approximately 1 lb.
